The Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) is a statutory body functioning under the Local Self Government Department, Government of Kerala. It operates in accordance with Section 56 of the Kerala Town and Country Planning Act, 2016.
Over the years, GCDA has played a pivotal role in the planned development of Kochi and its surrounding areas. It has successfully prepared and secured approval for 23 Detailed Town Planning (DTP) Schemes, in addition to formulating the Master Plan for the Central City of Kochi.
GCDA has spearheaded several landmark development initiatives, including the iconic Kochi Marine Drive and a range of comprehensive housing schemes such as Panampilly Nagar, Girinagar, Gandhi Nagar, Mavelipuram, Thottakkattukara, Edtahala, Vaduthala, and Jawahar Nagar.
The Authority has also established significant commercial infrastructure, including the Marine Drive Shopping Complex, Kaloor Market, Panampilly Nagar Shopping Complex, Kakkanad Shopping Complex, and the Gandhi Nagar Shopping Complex.
In the realm of public amenities and recreation, GCDA has developed various parks and open spaces such as Changampuzha Park, K.T. George Park, Rajendra Maidan, and major sports facilities including the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium and Ambedkar Stadium.
Furthermore, it has contributed to vital urban infrastructure through projects such as the BOT Bridge and several other key connectivity improvements.
Through these initiatives, GCDA continues to play an instrumental role in shaping the urban landscape and enhancing the quality of life in Kochi.
